This locomotive was purchased by union Pacific as they needed a strong one to haul their freight trains.There were 3 more locos like this the emd dd35a powered by two 16-567D3A engines, the alco c855 powered by two 16-251F engines and the ge U50c powered by two 7FDL-12 engines.
All these locos started experiencing issues and were retired.The dda40X stood out from the rest of them by being more reliable and powerful with twin 16-645E3 engines pushing out 6600hp.In a twist of fate these locos also needed excessive maintenance and costs started rising prompting the railway to retire them in the early 1980s.13 have been preserved today with only one used for excursions 6936.

This was indeed the most powerful diesel loco. But the most powerful loco of all time was another Union Pacific Engine, the Union Pacific Gas Turbine Electric Locomotive (GTEL) These were built by General Electric, and used a Gas Turbine operating on Bunker C Heavy Fuel Oil (Thick, heavy and cheap diesel oil). These locos could generate over 8500 hp using their turbine, which is the highest power from a single engine unit using fuel oil. These were produced from 1952 to 1961, with 55 units being made. You should probably read up about them. They don't exactly come under the classification of diesel locomotives as they used bunker fuel and a turbine, but they are an interesting concept nonetheless. They were phased out when Bunker C oil became more and more costly, and the noisy turbines began to get banned from urban areas, limiting the operational range.

It's name is WDM 3 Diesel Hydraulic Bo-Bo locomotives.. Only 8 units were made.. And was scrapped..None is Remaining even for a display in museum..I am waiting for your video on this locomotive exclusively.. Thanks again
