While most world leaders content themselves with appearing at sober state functions or occasional political rally, Putin's official photocalls suggest a rich, Walter-Mitty-esque fantasy life. But even though we may think these photos are just Putin stroking his wild ego, there is actually a very rational political strategy behind them.

If you look at the shots of him walking ( 3:13 ) carefully you will spot that his left hand swings alot more than the right with each step.
It is believed that his is because of his old KGB training where they were told to walk like this so they could access their gun faster.

In the pic with him holding a dentist's drill, he was actually jokingly threatening the governor of a town, that if he didn't replace the dental equipment, Putin would do work on himself. While Putin's photo-ops are still a form of propaganda, it creates a much more respectable culture in Russia than we have in much of North America. Putin's photos portray the 'ideal Russian' as intelligent, successful, athletic, adventurous, and healthy; whereas Western media often promotes a culture focused on partying, drinking, cheap entertainment, and obsession with social media popularity.
