FREEZE DRIED Christmas Gifts! Who knew you could use your Harvestright Freeze Dryer for Christmas presents? I also tried, yet another attempt at chocolate, but this time stuffed into a marshmallow. Idea for all you freeze drying people. I’m retired military. My former unit is deploying (again). While they are gone I’m having the families prepare home made meals for their troop. Then I will freeze dry and package the meal. The family can send their loved ones a home cooked meal to enjoy. Nothing like a taste of home and sure as hell beats military food.

I think I'd call the puffed up taffy "Snowman Poo" lol

I just did 2 1/2 lbs of that Taffy. A bit hard so I microwaved about 12 of them for 10 seconds. Pulled the ends, then used kitchen shears to cut in half. Most of them fell right out of the paper as I cut them. 40 on a tray, looked nearly perfect!

The best chocolate I have found to freeze dry is Chocolate milk. I make a few gal, 1 gal = 4 trays. Add a bit of water to already freeze dried chocolate milk, make a paste and then add to things you want to freeze dry again. It is so yummy and it keeps a nice color.

for taffy, I heat the piece
s for 7 seconds in the microwave and use my kitchen shears to cut them into fourths. They are nice little bites

You could also do Red and Green Jello bites LOVE THEM!

Can I through in my two cents worth. I have discovered that cutting taffy in quarters works better with scissors. Put a little cooking oil on the scissors before you start and things don't stick so much.

Great alternative to candy canes by using peppermint taffy. Cany canes didn't work at all for me. Will definitely have to do that soon as well as the Nilla wafers

Looking at this for ideas for 2021. Thinking that instead of candy canes you could add some mint extract to the nog giving the flavor you want. Thanks for the ideas.

Taffy is a cinch to cut with kitchen shears if you microwave it for a few seconds. I nuke about a dozen wrapped pieces at a time until slightly pliable, 6-8 seconds.

Just got my freeze dryer a few weeks ago and missed the gifting opportunity but am thinking about other celebrations going forward. I'd love to see how these can be packaged. I think there are some clear-front mylar bags... or maybe even vacuum-sealed jars? Any way to make the presentation as beautiful as the gift themselves? Thanks! I'm enjoying your channel and have learned a great deal (and also purchased the tray corners, dividers, and 'upgrade kit'!
