31 is early to go in this day and age but if you don't have a choice then what can you do. Been a legend of a player.

One of the games greatest modern defender's,
A physical beast with insane passing range, played the game most times with his footballing brain. Vamos rafa!

World class for both Madrid and Manchester United, the only thing holding him back was injuries. But even then he treated his clubs like they were his life willing to put his body on the line everytime. U won’t get many players like Varane in the future. ❤️❤️❤️

Some fans actually wanted manutd to extend his contract at 200k a week. Great player. Always legend

What a career. Shame the injuries took its toll but he has won pretty much everything a footballer can dream off. He can hang his boots with pride. I wish him good luck in the next phase of his life and career.

He took the phrase "leave football, before the football leaves you" seriously. He's had a great career. Nothing left to play for. World Cup, league and ucl winner

Only 31 but man has been playing high level football for Real Madrid before Man U and now Como

I think he has kids, it's time for him to focus on them.

People say it's too early for him to retire but let's be real, he won everything important in football, what else is there for him to do? At this point the motivation isn't there anymore cause there isn't anything else to achieve.

You may said he's young at 31 y/o but with his past injuries & the current one, you can imagine how stressful & difficult it was to recover from those physically & mentally

But above all else, he's had a good career & thank you for everything you have done to entertain us

Such a shame that injuries have cut his career short at the end, one of the best defenders of his generation

Even if it's too early to retire, I think it's a good thing, aware that his injuries are getting worse. Like Van Basten.

A genuine titan of the game. Very very underrated because he wasn’t like Pepe and Sergio Ramos and very flamboyant. Merci Rapha!

After listening to the horrors Phil Jones has gone thru with his knee, I applaud these type of players, taking injections and going thru immense pain every min of training and matches . Thanks Rafa, what a career you had .
