Tackling Child Poverty in Christchurch

Показать описание
For many of us, New Zealand is a great place to live. A place of scenic beauty, of empathy and kindness, and friendly and welcoming neighbours. But this is not the experience for over 235,000 New Zealand children living in poverty. For these children and their families, deprivation and hardship are ever-present. Find out more in this video, including how housing permanency can make a difference.
CMM (Christchurch Methodist Mission) addresses the causes and consequences of child poverty. Our housing initiatives in Christchurch and the upper South Island help nearly 1,000 households live better lives and overcome the worst effects of poverty.
We offer temporary accommodation, short-term emergency housing as well permanent housing.
Child poverty imposes costs not only on the children themselves, but also on the rest of society. A poor upbringing can leave permanent scars, such as reduced employment prospects, lower earnings and poorer health.
