Quenching them is not as explosion, it's a controlled release of liquid helium turning into gas due to on purpose introduced heat from the bath heaters. Ice in the turret, blocking the gas release valves caused the "explosion". Cold head was pushed out backwards from the panorama in this case, but there was no danger to patient as it was ontop of the magnet.
