This dude was unbelievable. This and his cover of Little Wing are two of the best Hendrix covers I've ever seen, it's difficult to say how good this is!

It doesn't really matter which of them was the best. Both were absolute titans in the guitar world and both left the earth far too soon.

“When he played that night, he had all of us standing there with our jaws dropped. I mean, myself, Robert Cray, Jimmie Vaughan and Buddy Guy were just watching in awe. There was no one better than him on this planet. Really unbelievable”.

Hendrix made it sing... Clapton made it cry... and Stevie made it SCREAM!!!

Not only is this perhaps the best rendition of Voodoo Chile, even better than the original I think, this is perhaps one of the greatest guitar performances I've ever seen. It's one of those performances you can watch repeatedly and hear something different every time. Just brilliant all around. He was on fire that night on Austin City Limits.

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Mr. Vaughan at a bar in Memphis TN. Not only a great person and more than happy to meet fans, but my god....his hands. I shook hands with him, and I swear to God, his hands felt like steel. I've never shook hands with someone with such strong ones...and that was his right one...can't even imagine what his left hand was like. Incredible player, and an incredible person. RIP Steve.

At first glance one comes to the conclusion that SRV was one of the best. It's only when you dig deeper into what SRV was all about. The gauge of his strings. The length of his set. The soul that was amplified when playing the guitar. That's when you know he WAS the Best!!!

I truly believe SRV is the best guitarist there's ever been and it still pisses me off that he's dead.

Pretty cool story. A buddy of mine was good friend's with Jimi's dad, Al Hendrix and he would go up to Seattle and stay with him from time to time. On one visit, Al was telling my friend Phil about a knock on the door he had gotten one day and when he answered, there was a limo parked out front and SRV standing there with his entourage on the doorstep. Stevie began to lament on how much he loved Jimi and always wanted to meet Al, so he could let him know AND invite him to the show he was playing that night at the Paramount. Al invited him in and after so many minutes, asks to be excused. He goes to the hall closet, grabs a guitar case, brings it out and opens it, a twelve string acoustic that belonged to Jimi and Al informed Stevie that NOBODY has touched that guitar since Jimi had passed. Stevie tuned it up and proceeded to "Go To Town" for over an hour! So, there you have it, SRV, in Al's living room, playing Jimi's 12 string!? Talk about a moment...lol!
If ANYONE would like the picture from that day, just hit me up on Messenger and I'll be glad to send it. My name on Messenger is Erik Slavens

"Stevie was an endless, open channel that music just poured out of. He made people who'd never touched a guitar in their life want to pick one up and start playing, and he made those of us who'd played onstage with him before want to Clapton.

"You couldn't help but like him, you couldn't help but love him. I never cry, but yesterday, when I heard the news about Stevie's death, I sat down on my bed and cried like a little baby" John Lee Hooker

And I quote Wings of Pegasus "it's difficult to say how good this is!" No, it's not difficult at all, Stevie was, and will probably always be the greatest guitarist this world has ever seen! RIP Stevie.

This is SRV at his peak. He was sober and magnificent. Classic performance on "Austin City Limits, " perhaps the best ever on that show.

B. B. King: "I've said that playing the blues is like having to be black twice. Stevie Ray Vaughan missed on both counts, but I never noticed."

Not sure why, but SRV is my favorite guitarist to watch play live. I enjoy listening to his music but watching him play takes it to another level. Soo friggin good!

There will never be anyone like SRV. He was the real deal. The guitar was a tool to express his soul and he mastered it like no one else. Like Clapton said, he was an “open channel” and his music would just flow without limits.

When SRV really let loose, like here, it sounded like the guitar is alive and he is barely keeping it under control. Nothing but amazing.

Unsung hero here is Chris on drums. He's always amazing, keeping up with SRV's changing songs nightly, but this part night, Austin City Limits, Chris was amazing. SRV is my favorite musician ever. Miss him terribly. SRV 💜 💜 💜.

I've played guitar for over 60 years and I've NEVER heard ANYONE describe the style of Stevie any better than you did! YOU'RE GREAT! Keep up the good work! 🇺🇸

I love how you worded it “he is playing Jimi but embellishing it with his own style”. You know it’s Jimi but you know it’s SRV
