The middle and late works of Sergei Rachmaninoff were as profoundly influenced by Scriabin as they were by the Dies Irae. When I noted the chromatic bent of his Etudes-Tableaux, this is how I found out about the genius of Alexander Scriabin.

So glad you're doing Scriabin!!!...What a great way to add variety and contrast to a common theme here with similar forces and such beautiful music...can't wait to listen!

Really terrific program. I listened to it straight through. All these pieces are new to me. It amazes me how much I don't know even after a lifetime of listening. It almost seems like this program could attract a mainstream audience but perhaps that is overly optimistic. Also discovered the young pianist Tengku Irfan on the Beethoven. He did a great job. Great program!

We performed this symphony at the University of Hamburg; if I remember well, coupled with Vaughan Williams "Towards the unknown region" and a movement of a choral symphony by Gustav Holst.
