What is a Postbacc program? | For Pre-Med students

Please know that this is just my personal experience with postbacc programs and my road to medical school. Every postbacc program offers different things and thats why it is so important to DO YOUR RESEARCH!

If you haven't taken the MCAT or don't want to take the MCAT before you go to a post-bacc, you can also look into a "DIY" post-bacc. Basically, you would do everything on your own. You would apply to a school, take the necessary classes that you need, and seek out experiences on your own. This is good if you can't afford to pay the high costs of formal post-bac programs, can't get into an official post-bacc program, or want to get around the typical MCAT requirement for many post-baccs. Also, while some people turn their noses up at SDN, I found it to be pretty helpful as a "outsider" trying to make sense of this whole medical/pre-med journey.

There are several Post Bacc programs that will accept an ACT or SAT as an entrance exam. It depends on what type of program you are applying to. For example, GPA enhancer programs (for those who have already taken all the required science courses) may require the MCAT, while career changer programs (for those who have not any or have taken very few science courses) will accept ACT or SAT scores.
