Moomin 1990 Japanese Intro HD

This is the first Japanese Opening of the series, rawscanned version from (i believe) 2017 remaster. It has western-like colors (more depth on them), unlike the original Japanese releases.

genuinely feels like entering another world when that first melody plays and Moominhouse comes over the hill...

My mom used to play me this when i was small to get me to sleep, if i remember correcty i used to ask her to replay it everytime it ended. Listening to it again brings back hazy memories of those times. Makes me appreciate life itself more.

I can't believe they replaced this masterpiece when dubbing it

Here's the english translation of the lyrics in case anyone's curious! (not my translation, but wanted to put it here because it adds a lot to the song)

Even you, who always tries to stay strong,
will have moments when you need to shed tears.
In those moments, just cry your heart out,
and then you will find that the sadness quickly disappears.
Come, Come here to where I am.
Come out and hold out your little hand to me.
I shall take you to the world of dreams.
As long as you have an honest heart, all is well.

So I didn’t mean to make a small essay here but:

I really love this intro/song and it’s the main motivation for me to even have watched the show.
I have yet to hear other country’s versions of it yet but I will actively seek them out soon. I love this song because I feel it really articulates the vibe of the show so well.

Aside from the meaning of the lyrics, The first half has a despondent minor key melody that is actually relatively complicated and the notes are not simple progressions. This makes me think of how complex emotions are almost always part of feeling sad or upset about something, and it isn’t easy to navigate though the feelings you have. The second half is major key, and the melody is much more simple and easy to follow, which makes sense if you think about how it feels to be happy, that’s not a very complex emotion and it is much easier to identify the nuances of what you are feeling.

This intro song is perfect for the show because it ties into the majority of the topics brought up, which are mostly about navigating through interpersonal relationships and more complex situations that involve mixed emotions, such as codependency or neglect, etc. that are even difficult for many adults to fully understand.

I had no idea the Japanese intro was entirely different from the Swedish and English one, it's quite interesting to see.

I'm glad here in Hungary, in the early 1990s the Moomin series was shown on TV with the Japanese opening theme. 😄 It's so beautiful, touching, gloomy and melancholic (but not depressing)! 🎵🎶🎵🎶 And fits perfectly for the story. ⛅🌳🌷

Japanese intro: Feels magical, mistical, you're entering to another realm, cozy
English intro: Feels like you're entering to Alabama

Amazing. I remember watching this 1990 Japanese-Finnish-Dutch anime TV series when I was a kid. It was shown on the BBC as a part of their children's block CBBC and RTÉ 2 years ago.

I know it is based on the Moomin novels and comic strips by the Finnish illustrator and author Tove Jansson and her brother Lars Jansson.

I'm sure Moomin franchise is very popular in Japan 🇯🇵 🗾.

Olisiko hienoa jos Future Film saisi erikoisoikeuden julkaista Muumilaakson tarinoista erikoisen julkaisun jossa on kielivaihtoehtoina japani, Ylen suomi ja ruotsi dupit, DVD:lle ja Blu-ray:lle.

Having grown up with the Norwegian version of the intro I definitely feel that this version is superior, while it's not as catchy it's more thematically close to the series and has a melancholic yet nostalgic feel.

Welp I'm gonna have to rewatch the moomins in Japanese, because from this intro I can tell the Dub watered it down and altered the whole tone of the show 😭

I'll never get over just how utterly pissed off Snork looks in this scene of otherwise ecstatic joy

Scenes at 0:23 and 1:13 are also seen in the Finnish intro, and 0:36 and 0:57 in the outro.😉

The character in Little Witch Academia, Lotte Jansson, is named after Moomin creator Tove Jansson. And Hannah England and Barbara Parker were based on Bill Hanna and you Joe Barbera.

The original Japanese intro is amazing compared to the badly clipped version they used in Finland. Incredibly dumb that even the late remaster of the show still used the badly cut intro instead of this masterpiece.

Misbehave
