When Toby’s instinct to grab Pam’s knee and to ‘caress her kneecap’ and realizes how inappropriate it was and that EVERYONE else saw it was one of the greatest single moments of The Office that took only a few seconds

Toby was with Pam so long (in his mind) that placing his hand on her knee was a natural motion. Just hearing him jump the fence and run off was hilarious !!!

Toby just might be the most complex character on the entire show. Shunned by Michael, bound by corporate policy, keeping track of an office full of crazy people, divorced, crushing on Pam, seduced by the Scranton Strangler trial, looking to escape to warmer environs, showing off his girlfriend… sometimes, after I’m done cringing, I feel truly sorry for the guy.

Toby really lived a life of tragedy, missed his chance with Pam that nobody even thought he had until she admitted that she found him cute. Then he finally decided to move on and was rewarded with a broken neck. Michaels commitment to making Toby's life a living hell was just the icing on the cake. He always seemed nice but was just pushed over the edge...

The funny thing is Paul Lieberstein was a writer and executive producer on the show so he intentionally made his character creepy AF.

Toby touching Pam's thigh was the single event that transformed the whole of the later seasons.He wouldnt have left for costa rica if this didnt happen, Holly would never have come to the scranton branch, and michael and holly wouldnt have fell in love and left at the end of season 7....
