No, I disagree with Ashton Kutcher. Russian language isn't aggressive. I think he was exaggerating to be dramatic and funny. In general, Russian people are polite and diplomatic, far more so than Hollywood actors.

I've wanted to learn Russian since I was 15 or 16. I'm 52 now and finally getting around to making a real effort to learn it on my own. I've never thought of it as a aurally aggressive language. Then again, I just really love to listen to it. Just last weekend I went to a local Eastern European market to have a look around. When I went to pay for my items I was behind a woman who spoke with the cashier for about 5 minutes in Russian. They eventually stopped and apologized for taking up so much time. I told them it was ok. I just loved to hear them speak. Lol so they proceeded to go another 5 minutes while I stood there going "Well I know what THAT word was...and THAT one...." but everything else was a mystery. For now, anyway. :)

Он имел ввиду "May I have a hug" и видимо вбил эту фразу в переводчик. Следовательно, он получил несуразицу в виде "могу ли я иметь обнять".

A few corrections. Ashton said Russian sounds aggressive, not rude. There is a difference. Kate Beckinsale is an English actress.

I am learning Russian and I think it is a very beautiful language. I think what makes Russian sometimes sound aggressive is the way the intonation rises on the stressed syllable but then drops sharply again after that syllable, sometimes it can sound threatening to foreigners ears.

I agree with you, there is no doubt that Russian indeed is a beautiful language…

Russian doesn't sound rude or aggressive. It just sounds foreign. If you hear it enough it sounds familiar. Most Russian and Slavic languages sound similar to me.

I studied Russian in High School in Canada. You are right about needing to use it to keep it. 54 years later I am forgetting almost everything, even the sound values of some letters.

12:54 there is a big mistake, Ralph Fiennes was dubbed with another actor (Vadim Medvedev) in Two Womans - source wiki. You can actually hear the difference when he himself really speaks Russian in The White Crow.

Great video, also, was worth mentioning famous Mexican Russian actress Ana Layevska
Her Russian is pretty on point and performs in a lot of famous Mexican titles

It's not the Russian language itself that sounds rude, it's just that the Russian people often sound rude, it's their manner of conversation. If you listen to a Russian person who talks calmly and eloquently, the impression will be completely different.

I find this to be an interesting video! Most of these I either hadn't heard of, or have, and didn't know they speak Russian! I _did_ know that Merkel speaks Russian, presumably because she grew up in East Germany when it was still a satellite of the USSR.

Also, at 5:40, you asked why so many foreigners think Russian is an "aggressive language". As a non-Russian (I am from the USA), I would guess that this has something to do with Hollywood and how, in many Hollywood movies, most of the Russians are bad guys, whether it be the KGB agents of spy movies, or the boxer of _Rocky_ _IV, _ or even the mind-controller of _Black_ _Widow._ This is the same with Germans and the German language, except with Nazis of World War II movies instead of communists.

Lastly, you asked why I am interested in the Russian language. Like some of these celebrities, I also want to know a lot more about the culture of Russia, which is just as well, since, as mentioned in the previous paragraph, Hollywood does not do a good job at teaching Russian culture. You, though, are very informative on both the language and the culture!

Russian sounds very nice, sweet, soft even. People who claim Russian language sounds rough or rude are repeating exagerrations.
