_______HOW MY BREAKDOWNS WORK:

THE REVIEW
I watch each episode with my own commentary, often pausing the scenes to get my words out without having to talk over the episode, and also to point out and analyze the show's art and animation. I have seen each episode already growing up, so these reviews are to compare and contrast the five categories listed below.

PLOT (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
The foundation of the episode. Uniqueness and overused tropes are taken into account, but it is also judged on how well it tells the story of the episode. An episode can score a 5 even with a basic/ cliche plotline as long as it has good pacing, worthy use of its tropes, and feels well-polished. An episode can lose points due to plotholes, uneven storytelling, and relying too heavily on cliches to do the work for it.

CHARACTERIZATION (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
How well the characters are written. Do they feel like themselves compared to the grand narrative of the franchise? Are the supporting or one-off characters interesting, or pure plot devices? Did the humor land? Did the actions and character motivations make sense?

VISUALS (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
Basically, everything that happens on-screen. Character Design. Animation. Backgrounds. Creative mechanics and solutions. If there is CGI or digital effects added, how well do they blend into the show, and were they used as an enhancement, or a crutch?

IMPORTANCE (Scaled from 1 to 5 Points)
This includes, but is not strictly based on, how important the episodes are to the current story arc (if there is one) or the general narrative of the Ben 10 Franchise. Points can also be awarded for how impactful the episode was, or how favored/ important it is to the general Ben 10 fanbase. I ask myself, "If I skipped this, would I be missing out on the 'Ben 10 Experience?' "

ENTERTAINMENT (Scaled from 1 to 5)
Pretty much the most important part of developing a tv show. You can be perfect in all four of the previous categories, but the episode can still be boring. On the flip side, the episode can be absolute garbage, but still an enjoyable watch. How likely would you be to put this episode on if you were in the mood to watch Ben 10?

“Of course I can take it from you! Ben, take it from him”
I love this line. Great delivery.

8:53 I find it almost intriguing to think this is more Kevin respecting XLR8 given that when they were younger, XLR8 was the first of Ben's Aliens Kevin ever saw and that was also when Ben first helped him out.

Old George's talk with Ben was so great. It is actually rare to see a show like this have people on both sides talk about what they have in common or can sympathize with. When George has someone as sure of themselves as Ben even in doubt of what to do, you know his words have some major sway. Yeah, Old George is definitely one of the best characters.

Ben fighting Sir George is even more epic when you realize it's a human fighting with Azmuth's first and most destructive creation and another fighting with his latest and more peaceful one.

This is one of best episodes. I think that Dagon never shapeshifted into a dragon, he was just confused for one as the story was passed down for generations. Which explains why Patrick's faction was so fixated with killing the map maker, they thought he was Dagon.

1st off, this episode really gives off classic Azmuth vibes, especially with his ego he had. And second, it's sweet trying to fix his mistakes for Zeneth

Its also interesting how George and Ben are kinda paralels since during the highbreed invasion Ben had pretty much the exact same reaction as George when Azmuth wanted to take the omnitrix from him, both of them basically said "Azmuth you can only have it after i use it to deal with this crisis, and if you insist on it then you will have to try take it by force from me"

29:19 man i will say, George indeed has a VERY strong mental fortitude, Not only was he strong enough to not be mind controlled by the lucubras, he also wasn't corrupted by the sword and most impresive of all he not only saw that horrorfying image that made the trio feel sick but he was right there close and personal with this lovecraftian extra-dimentional demon fighting it, and cutting out his heart during all of it, really makes me wonder if for example maybe George would be one of the few characters that would be able to look at toepicks face without being cosumed by fear

I do think it makes sense that a project like the Omnitrix, which has taken him nearly 1000 years to perfect, may have had multiple factors behind it's creation.

I love this episode because it shows that young Azmuth used to be like Ben and was blinded by his curiosity that the sword was used for destruction, so he created the Omnitrix technology as a form of redemption and an apology. It is sad since we never knew whether Zenith noticed, but I'd like to think that she did somewhere... 😢

Maybe the tale was originally about Sir George fighting "The Dagon", but over generations it shifted into "The Dragon" as people associated medieval knights with fighting dragons and Dagon is not too far off linguistically.

I really like how Rob breaks down these episodes, lot of passion and attention given to the episodes and a really nice simple rating system, keep it up Kuro and friends ♥️

Do you think that the ability of the sword being able to turn George back to his prime has the same technology as the Omnitrix turning the aliens into their prime physical form? Maybe it was inspired by the sword

I really like how the Incursean were incorporated into the lore of Ascalon, those guys hadn’t been relevant for like 3 seasons up until then.

It’s interesting how a race used mostly for comic relief have such a grim backstory but this explained why they were always out to wage war and conquer worlds.

I always had a theory that, on top of many theories that the Omnitrix is "alive", in a sense, so is Ascalon, and there's a "connection" between them in some way. Perhaps even using the same energy. Like, they never really went into detail what kind of energy is the Omnitrix using, so perhaps since it's powerful enough to wipe out a universe at maximum self destruct, it's powered by the same cosmic force as Ascalon, and therefore the sword is able to "command" the Omnitrix to stand down

also i love how a friend of mine basically thought that Ascalon was a weapon created for destruction and used primarily to destroy the user'sfoes, while the Omnitrix was made for peace and is used to protect others, especially by someone like Ben

so in a way, if used together (properly, unlike what happens in the UA finale), the user would essentially have a SWORD and a SHIELD, complimenting each other, as Ascalon's capacity to destroy is tempered by the Omnitrix's ability to save, a true balance between two of Azmuth's greatest creations!

I really like Sir George as a character. Not only is he pretty badass and I like the very traditionally heroic vibe to him, but he actually manages to talk Ben out of fighting with him. He's essentially someone Ben would aspire to be.

28:55 It must be said that in Lovecraft's works Cthulhu was described similar to a dragon:
"A pulpy, tentacled head surmounted a grotesque and scaly body with rudimentary wings; but it was the general outline of the whole which made it most shockingly frightful."
Maybe Dagon had the tentacle head and the dragon body in the past, but it was so mindbreaking that it could only be remembered as a dragon.

When you showed Cannonbolt saying that its species, Arburian Pelarota, was extinct, I wondered what Ultimate Cannonbolt can do after being freed from the Ultimatrix. All the other Ultimatrix beings still have their species they're the ultimate forms of, so I can't imagine how Ultimate Cannonbolt is dealing with it, if it was ever brought up again

I can't believe Azmuth actually had a girlfriend, he strikes me as the kind of person to build a computer wife, like Plankton. She probably would have turned evil tho 😂

I love this episode, anytime we got lore about the omnitrix or azmuth was just super exciting
