C-Fly Dream Portable Brushless Travel Drone with Gimbal Flight Test Review

Pros
- Small and lightweight (251 grams with battery), it's very portable. As C-Fly advertises, "Take your Dream to travel around the world".
- 1080p camera with two axis stabilized gimbal.
- Controller has built-in WiFi relay to provide long range digital FPV reception.
- GPS/GLONASS satellite system to provide accurate positioning.
- Optical flow system provides stable hover indoors.
- Advanced flight modes of circle, follow me, and waypoints.

Cons
- Uses 802.11ac 5G WiFi. Not all phones are capable of using this WiFi. First verify that your phone is indeed 802.11ac capable before purchasing.
- 1080p camera could be better. Frame rate is only 24fps. White balance is also a bit off in sunny environment.
- Low voltage auto return did not seem to perform as advertised. I was flying below 10% remaining battery power and manually landed to protect the battery.
- C-Fly app still needs some fine tuning. App would freeze when I would attempt to stop video recording.

It seems like C-Fly has done better with their Wifi FPV system than must toy quad makers. You got decent range with no break-up. But with the real DJI Spark now going for $399 at Best Buy with controller, I'm not sure by the Dream at $249 is a good deal. It might have been when the Spark was $699. They arrived late to the party with the Dream. Good review.

So the camera has no remote tilt option? Hoped it would be on the (old) remote control. So now there is a new remote control to go with it. Although the new one looks smooth, the old one looks more professional.

It seems a bit better than the Obtain but the conflict between the app and the controller is a problem. The camera itself is quite good but the vibrations from limitations of the 2 axis gimbal combined with the fairly low FPS does give it a mild form of jello but compared with some it isn't that bad. Not cinematic but usable.
Range is good with the wifi on your phone but your phone tends to be good with 5gig wifi. It will be interesting to see if that range is consistent with other phones (I suspect it will from the few reviews I've seen so far)
The bells and whistles on the app may work better when using the phone as the controller but they aren't all that bad now.
I'm not sure the pricing is right with the minor glitches it shows but it isn't exorbitantly high.
I'm not sure I'd buy one yet. I'd wait for further development.
But the review thus far is excellent. I shall watch the follow ups with interest

Great video, bought the Dream in January 2019. It came with a different controller that looked like the jjrc Heron controller. The drone's performance was average and I felt it was not as good as I had seen in other reviews, mostly due to stability in the air and vibrations in the video. I eventually crashed it (totally my fault) but decided to strip it down. Whilst the circuit boards were marked 'dream' and the compass even has cfly marked on it the production date seemed to be Sept 2018 and I wonder if they have reduced the quality. I have a feeling an earlier version may be a better buy.

some people comparing this to spark or even telling this that its a spark killer... NOT EVEN CLOSE! hahaha! the video quality alone it produces is a laugh.... but its a good featured drone holding its own inits price point. nice review, as always!

In your next test flight, try using the video button on the transmitter to start/stop your video... worked for me! LoL!!!

i also wonder if the lens filters they have for the spark would work with this too?

Quite a bit jello there, price diff. is not that much either and spark price seems to be dropping a bit. Yuneec breeze 4k was selling for $150 in walmart with its EIS looks like a better option

Finally the little brother of the Obtain CFly, which were a copy of Mavic Pro i bought after seeing your video.
Now, i have a real Spark, and i can say that the camera of the Dream is probably the same in the Obtain, sadly...

This drone would be great at about the 200.00 price point. 320.00 is way too much especially since you can buy a spark now for 399.00. Thank you for the great review.

I was surprised it landed that close to the starting point, considering GPS was switched off when you started the first real flight.

Hi! Are you able to review the Aosenma CG033. I remember you were a fan of the CG035 so am interested in your thoughts on this new Mavic style drone.

U gotta stop the shoutouts. Posting "First" in comments is an outdated meme that you have embraced too firmly. We appreciate your reviews.

Does the gimbal work well? Half decent cheap alternative to a spark? Thanks

Obviously Chinese companies have no problem ripping each other off. They can copy the form factor, but are struggling to duplicate DJI’s superior software. Nice vid. Thanks.
