Vladimir Putin approves law banning gender-affirming procedures in Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed legislation on July 24, 2023, marking the final step towards outlawing gender-affirming procedures in the country. The bill, which was approved unanimously by both houses of parliament, bans any “medical interventions aimed at changing the sex of a person”. Russian lawmakers said the law aims to protect “traditional values”.
