I am so old, I remember watching these commercials live. Everyone wanted to be Michael Jackson. Pepsi has always been #2 to Coca Cola, but this Marketing campaign with MJ actually kept some solid market share for Pepsi. Some younger folk may not know, but Michael Jackson's hair actually caught fire during a Pepsi commercial shoot. He would remain on pain killers the rest of his life to cope with the pain to his scalp. MJ would eventually die from an accidental overdose of propofol (apparently used to treat insomnia....his prescribing doctor was charged with involuntary manslaughter).
