My Profile:

I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won roughly a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

When the water gets into the low 40’s and into the 30’s up until it freezes. it’s the best time of year. Easiest time to find offshore fish and groups of big ones. Can’t even Think of how many times I’ve spot locked on a waypoint and never had to leave it it four hours and stayed in the same area for the whole day catching fish. I look forward to it every year.

Matt nice cold water video! I liked the fact that you mentioned safety. I fish right up to ice up and that requires safety to be a top priority.
One thing you didn’t mention was to always wear a PFD at all times in cold water conditions. If you fall in you have very little time for a self rescue. I’m not a fan of the mechanical PFD’s either. Don’t trust your life on them!

I use to hate winter because it was so slow for Bass. As I gained knowledge in their habits, I look forward to winter more than any other season.

Where I'm at, most DD are caught during winter, thus I'm fine with 1 bite a day.

The a-rig can get to those bottom fish also. I will throw it and let sink to the bottom and retrieve it right off the bottom. Catch 8+ lbers every winter.

Great information as always. Caught my
11.4 pound Pb hopping a blade bait this spring. You can never go wrong with a blade bait

I'm in Maine, wayer temps 41. Caught 36 big largemouth and smallmouth in 5 hours of fishing. Mostly a ned rig (bang stix) and a menace grub on a jig head dragged slowly on the bottom. Caught a few on a blade bait. The ned and the menace did 90% of the work. Fish where in 12-15 fow relating to a deep chunk rock point

Falling in is no joke, for sure. I keep a drybag with a change of warm, loose fitting clothes...just in case. I look forward to giving the Stunna a shot. Great info as always! Thanks.

Don’t forget the hand warmers . It’s funny, the best bass lake out here crushed them on jerk bait with 39 d water . Next week same lake 46d water . Had to slow roll jerk bait . I though that strange .

My favorite winter time bait is a Spro lil John or rock crawler. They straight catch them in the winter.

I fish year round and when fall hits I put an entire change of clothes and extra jackets on the boat. Just in case I ever fall in or just get real wet. Safety is important to me as well. Even on Chickamagua our temps are down to 58 water right now and will get in the 40's shortly. Maybe this winter would be a good time to show what you carry in your boat besides tackle. With your experience there's probably stuff we all should have and don't think of. Thanks for your channel and all the teaching and tips.
