A 50 mile per second descent would indeed be detrimental. Perhaps you meant 50 METERS per second instead?

I`m 59yrs of age and in all my life I`ve never heard the name, Gagarin, pronounced in such a ridiculous manner

The surname Gagarin has the emphasis on the second syllable. Creating a video about someone should require at the least, minimal effort on how to pronounce the subject's name.

The one lesson should be learned about the Soviet Union around 1968. When Cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov went up in Soyuz 1 I think it was called then. It was already plagued with problems in design, and while engineers, KGB, and even those higher up including possibly Presidium Leonid Brezhnev himself. When Komarov burned up on reentry and died as a result. This affected Gagarin greatly.

Only later after he was doing flight exercises did he befall a similar fate. What this means it was a well known fact how hard the Soviet Air Force pushed their pilots and cosmonauts to undertake great deeds with great risk. Despite how flawed the vehicles were all for propaganda reasons.

I will always say it was a couldnt stand the fatal death of his best friend Vladimir Komarov who sacrificed his life for Yuri in the Soyuz 1 mission. ....That was so traumatic. Thats why Gagarin desperately wanted to have the chance to fly again- he somehow 'reacreated' the death of his best friend that way, by falling to the ground. God knows.

You forgot to add the most interesting part. A few years earlier the USSR sent his best friend Vladimir Komarov to his death in a shotty space craft that they knew wouldn't survive the voyage. For years Gagarin held a grudge against Brezhnev, which admitting that to anyone back then was a bad move; even if you were a global hero.

Their good and impressive part was that they took a vast, frozen and inaccessible country with absolutely zero industry and literacy, they taught everyone to read and write whether they wanted to or not, vaccinated everyone for smallpox whether they wanted to or not, and sent a human into space 44 years later. Their bad part was the human cost for some of these achievements, Stalin's paranoia, totalitarian intervals and the problems in efficiency in everyday life that gradually brought about their demise. I buy the narrative of neither side without a closer look, neither USA nor USSR.
