I have great respect for Steve actually being onsite so much confirming his plans are correctly executed. The homeowners are fortunate. The content is great as well.

I wish my architect was present at the job site as often as you are, Steve, when we built our house . Thanks for another great video !

Our house has a long distance between water heater and kitchen. We used a small electric heater from Bosch (about 2.5 gallons) installed in the basement directly under the kitchen that provides instant hot water while the regular heater takes a minute to send hot water theough the long supply pipes. Works great.

Great video Steve. The hot water recovery system was very interesting, I cannot believe how much heat it can recover.

Jack and Jill bathroom in Arizona where the bathroom in between two rooms, the shower/bath and toilet. And in each bedroom, there is a small sink and mirror area. So it's a jack and Jill bathroom where the bath fixtures are accessable from both rooms and the sinks are their own.

When my parents had their house built in 1973 they made certain that any fixture that used water were all on inside walls. So all water supplies and drains came up through the floor and into inside walls so that there would be zero possibility of freezing no matter how cold it got. And the Texas Panhandle does not get as cold or for as long as it does in Boston.

G, day Steve from Sydney Australia.
Interestingly Australia is now mandating a waterproofing certificate to accompany the development application; that the product complies with the standard listed in the code and is approved by the consent authority prior to installation.
Improvements
* No particle board flooring
* Extending waterproof membrane around showers, bidet and DOWN THE INSIDE OF FLOOR DRAINS

Code for your plumbing drain pipe
704.1 slope of horizontal drain is
Up to 2 1/2 is 1/4 per ft.
3” to 6” is 1/8 per ft.

But you can slope 3” max 1/4 per ft. Most inspectors will allow it.
But code is 1/8 per ft.

That basement has a lot of voice Reflection issues! Can you imagine playing music down there! 😮 they’re going to need to invest thousands of dollars putting in specialized acoustical room treatments.

The rough in plumbing and heating and air conditioning along with the electrical matter way way more to the actual longevity and the comfort level of the home than the pretty stuff around the edges

My family has been builders for a 100 years, and have seen a lot of degradation in the trades. The boys from New England give me hope that at least some carpenters, electricians, and plumbers care about doing a good job and not butcher another craftsman’s work.

I've thought for a while that heat pump water lines should be installed along waste lines (in the yard). It seems the heat recovery would work bette from some sort of holding tank, though that's probably not practical.

It just seems like 4' doesn't give enough time for much heat exchange.

That copper coil outlet woupd have to be piped to a pretty close water heater inlet or what a mixing valve back to the shower? Mixing valve would be yet another mechanical device that will fail.

Hope the window into the shower that the pool guests might use has some blinds or something.
