A great link to VDGG videos available on YouTube. This band has never received the attention & respect it so seriously deserves. Kudos to the original Yahoo article (a terrific piece that presents, among other things, an excellent history & overview of the band, along with very informative information about two of the band’s members who w🎉ere the primary musicians who defined the approach & direction VDGG was to take in its music virtually from its outset and formation over 50 years ago: Peter Hammill and Hugh Blanton, musicians extraordinaire.)
Also, the “connection” (for lack of a more meaningful term) between VDGG and the punk-rock movement during the latter 1970s is most interesting and something I (and probably many other rock historians, both casual listeners and even more than a few professional music journalists) had never contemplated until now. There simply is so much to learn, know and consider in this extremely wide and varied field of the MANY genres of rock music that it is at times more than mind boggling! All that said, my (and obviously many others’) reverence for the artistry and originality of Van der Graaf Generator hopefully will continue to have a positive effect on greater awareness and recognition of this extraordinary group of musicians!
