HUGE Beetle: The Elephant BEETLE

Показать описание
Elephant beetles are some of the largest and heaviest species of beetle on the planet and definitely some of the biggest insects in the Americas. These massive beetles spend the majority of their lives as larvae feeding on decaying wood and soil in the tropics of central and South America. As adults these beetles feed on fruits and tree sap and spend their time looking for mates and sparring other males. Their genus, Megasoma, means "Large body" referring to the fact that these beetles are of course massive! Did you know about Elephant beetles before this episode? Let me know in the comments!

It certainly lives up to its name, that thing was HUGE! I can't imagine holding an insect that large in my hand, I have no frame of reference. It dwarfs the species here in NC. Great video Jack!

Megasoma are one of my favorite rhino beetles of all time! I'm glad you're making more content of them in their habitat!
Rhino beetles need more attention like all other bugs do

Crazy how we human don´t really experience the bigger parts of these beetles lives. Makes me think of some cicadas. Bugs are amazing!

Will you ever get stung by a Scolopendra gigantea? I know squirrelly Peterson was stung by Scolopendra heros but wanted to see if you would go a step above 💪... it’s way worse than the tarantula hawk 🤣.... I know the venom has adverse effects from person to person so I’m curious if this will be the most painful of any other insect.. also it would be getting “stung” right since they use modified legs to inject the venom instead of through their bite with mandible correct? Excited to hear back from you 🐐!!
