You laugh now but I started with 1.0. It was so cool to be able to do something creative with photographs 25 years ago. It was the dawn of digital imaging, it was Star Trek on your desktop. Photoshop has come a long way gradually. Who doesn't look back at their high school photograph and think what a dork; but we were so cool back then. Thank you for this trip down memory lane.

I still have my Photoshop 0.63 Beta floppy disk from 1988. I'm surprised it runs on my Mac Mini OS9. The info screen has Thomas Knoll's phone number and "Not for distribution."

LOL - I remember these days, when the Photoshop folks asked me to try the pen tool (they gave me floppy disk with Beta version) without any instructions or Photoshop book. I mastered it like playing a piano. That was a FUN TIME at Electronic Easel Company in Minneapolis, MN in the early 90's. Working as a printer I had problems with understanding RGB as I was used to working with CMYK. So I suggested that I needed to see channels in CMYK. Well they did it right quickly!!! Listening to these guys saying oh heck, there are no layers made me laugh.I also had problems working in a single pane so I suggested layers. They did it too right quick! I love Photoshop!!!! I love all people involved in creation in this wonderful program!!! Blessings to all of them!!! I use Photoshop every day, even now while I am on disability. My suggestion for a sharpening filter or blur filter for mug shots was worked fast and wonderful. I am so happy to be one who had some input in creation of this marvelous program. I created first 3D image. It still hangs on my wall. Also I hope the Photoshop people do remember first calenders for Mackintosh was done by "7 Heaven Company" (Macintosh Utilities for System 7) Most of graphics there was mine  I work ed also on Quadra 500 (which I have today with my old monitor). My Hard drive (removable) was 500MB Shadow. This was sure a fun time!!! I sent to the printer every CMYK channel separably on a 44 disk. This was for Minnesota Monthly Magazine. I have a huge big portfolio of all my work for my favorite clients. Target, Cub Foods, Northwest Bank, Wilson Leather and others. I helped a lot also with creating Northern Independent Newspaper. I create most of Ads and Wedding or Dinning Issues. I love my work thanks to wonderful Photoshop People!!! Blessings. Also you all use icons of images for applications because I started this at Color House in Minneapolis, Mn to please their salesmen. I have thank you letter from them and their clients for creating those. This is my store and I am sticking to it. I still have a lot of great ideas but no one to work with on them.

I was trained in Poland by Mistro of printing who finished 3 printing universities in Lwow, Warszasawa, Hindenburg, Germany. I was scared to come to the USA but my Mistro Roman Teliczek promised me that with my mind and talents I could conquer any country and printing job. In Poland I got a degree in compositor of hand setting and mono-type setting and I also knew line-a type setting. Later I also got classes in design. Today I am so proud of what have accomplished because as the proverb says: "If you love your job you are not working at all. You are enjoying your life." This is what I do.

We've come a long way! Today Photoshop has so many amazing new features like layers, multiple undo levels, $20 a month subscription fees, and draconian DRM.

I was a beta tester for Photoshop 1.07. I used it on my Mac SE right up until 1991. Those Gaussian Blurs took forever! Minutes!

I don't even know how I became a beta tester for Adobe, but I had bought some Adobe fonts, Tekton and others, and the next thing I know they were sending me their magazine and beta disk for Photoshop.

Some of it is very understandable. Stuff in different places and named differently, lots of capabilities missing, etc. Takes time getting used to after years of learned productivity.

But it also sometimes shows that some of these experts are no geniuses. Like cmon, how hard it is to notice a button named "preview" to understand that your changes will be visible once it's pressed, especially after you did something which should have changed, but didnt.

The video is fun, but it doesn't really do the program justice. Very much – and all of what they are attempting to do – was possible in Photoshop 1, partly with alternative methods (that are still in Photoshop today, such as "Calculate/Calculations…" which can be used in place of layers – and which already in Photoshop 1 included most of the blending modes we have today). And the keyboard command for setting the source point for the cloning tool has stayed the same through all versions of Photoshop, including the current one, so that… wasn't particularly impressive for an expert.

It's apparent that it was meant to be funny, but some historical accuracy wouldn't have hurt. It would have been more impressive and fun to see them do actual work in Photoshop 1, since it can be done. This video gives people an incorrect picture of what Photoshop 1 was like. It was a very impressive and capable program already at version 1.

Wow, Photoshop touch on a tablet is more powerful than this and that alone is amazing. But without this base we wouldn't be here today! Love it!

So much now is taken for granted by new users.
It's only through the subsequent evolvement of programs like these do you truly get an understanding of how to do things properly and appreciate why!

At least they had a colour screen...!

This is awesome!  Seeing all of these pros, who I admire so, struggle with PS 1.0, is a chuckle!

Fun! I always feel like I learn more from photoshops limitations in each iteration more than the new features.

Geez.. my first introduction to Photoshop was 3.0. I was enrolled to take a 1st level course using this program, but bowed out of the class as the amount of assignments were going to interfere in completing my degree back then. Basically I ended up being self-taught using PhotoShop. Still so much more to explore!

What computers were they using? I had to go to lunch for some things to undo, render or even save. These were way too fast cuts to get the real feel.

Crazy. Thank for sharing it with us.
Photoshop come a long way.
Glad I started using on CC version.
Back then you needed to be a genius for using the application.

I'd love to know what tool(s) did they use to virtualized the old Mac OS. I've searched around a bit, and can't find any reference to those details. Sheepshaver, or something else?
