I once worked with a few old black dudes at a machine shop who could not read fractions off a tape measure, 3/8th, 5/16th and so on. But, after 3 turns of a dominoes game could tell you exactly what dominoes each player was still holding based off of what was laid down the previous turns. Those same dudes could probably count cards in a blackjack game but were never taught how.
