Art Scholl flew the Cessna 150 Aerobat in this scene. For those who aren't familiar with him, he was a pretty famous stunt and movie pilot. He was killed during the filming of "Top Gun" not long after this movie was produced, when he went into an inverted flat spin off the California coast. What a tremendous pilot he was - who else could take that Aerobat to the absolute edge of what it can do? Not many like him around anymore.

This is the most awesomely unrealistic movie ever... and that's why I love it 30 years later! I live in Dubai now and got a picture with a UAE F-16 at the Dubai Airshow this past November; I felt the spirit of Doug Masters and Chappy! :D

Today they wouldn't bother to make this flying real or the motorcycle driving would be cheep CGI with shaking cam so you couldn't see whats going on. Those stuntmen in the 80's just rock!

Interesting, useless fact: In the TV show Cobra Kai, Johnny likes Iron Eagle. Larry B. Scott and Rob Garrison, who were Cobra Kai's in The Karate Kid, played Reggie and Packer, respectively, in Iron Eagle.
