Pence says Trump asked him 'what he thought' they should do after 2020 election

Former Vice President Mike Pence refuted the notion that former President Donald Trump only asked him to delay the counting of electoral votes on Jan. 6, 2021, to allow for audits of state election results, disputing the characterization of their interactions made by some members of Trump's legal team.

I thought, for a second there, that Pence had finally grown a spine ... until that second-to-last question. When asked, "would you ever vote for Donald Trump again, " how can you answer anything other than an emphatic, "no?" Then, after that, he listed all of the reasons why he should've said that simple, and direct answer.

In the end, Pence will always be a political animal. He'll never let the whole truth out of his mouth; there will always be some sort of stupid political spin plastered over it. It's frankly insulting to our intelligence and it, at least, gives the perception of dishonesty. And for a guy who purports to be so very pious and pure, it makes you question the truthfulness of absolutely everything that he says after that. I guess that that's one of the pitfalls inherent in the adoption of that sort of lily-white persona.

He started telling the truth once he realized he wasn't going to be Trump's running mate. And yes, it took him way too long to realize that.

Let's get this straight, he asked around if he could do it. He asked former vice President Dan Quayle, and Dan Quayle was pretty much all heck no you can't do that, not even an option. Again to reiterate, he asked around if he could do it.

If I had to thank anyone it would be Dan Quayle, Pence called him, asking if he could do this, Quayle set him straight. In the past I didn’t think much of Quayle, but we all owe him a huge thank you for saving (for now) our democracy.

For Pence to say he had concerns about the Justice Dept for years, it’s not unreasonable to ask as Vice President for four years what did he do about it?
He was happy to go along for the ride but was smart enough that if he crossed the line he would likely end up in prison. Trump never understands where the line is his whole life, and now he is dragging the country through much pain because of his lawless behaviour. He’s about to find out nobody is above the law.

What Pence means when he said: "States changed the rules that benefited Democrat candidates" is that some states made it easier for legal, registered voters to participate in a national election. The GOP knows there's no major election irregularities but understand that they have no chance of winning elections if every American were to vote.
