Haven't seen anyone mention it so: The major difference between a calzone and a stromboli is how they are sealed. Calzones are always folded and stromboli are always rolled. You seal a calzone by folding it in half and crimping the edges. You seal a stromboli by rolling it in a spiral and folding some extra dough back over the stromboli.

These strombolis looked very tasty 😋 great job as always, Geoff! I think the difference is only how they're sealed, calzones are folded in half, strombolis are rolled! Both are yummy with some extra 🧀😁

The biggest difference between a stromboli and a calzone is how they are sealed. A calzone is folded in a half-moon shape, but a stromboli is rolled in a spiral. Calzones are made with ricotta and served with marinara sauce on the side. Stromboli is made with mozzarella and sauce is baked into it.
