My favorite dyslexic cognitive function is omniscience 🧠 Another not less important cognitive function would be 'cognitive empathy' instead of 'emotional empathy' 💝

I live in Finland, and choose to hide my dyslexia in my adult working life. A manager at a great company that I interned for has a life changing convo with me. After the 3 month internship I got a 1 year contract. I asked this lady from another department about her English language skills. I was certain she had to have worked abroad, or had been exchange student or au pair. She said that her family bilingual (Finnish and Swedish) and that she was dyslexic and offered me a piece of candy. I was shocked that she said it, "would my boss hear that and find me out?!"
Her attitude changed everything for me. I asked her so many questions. She changed my life. That convo changed my life. I'm also a single Mom, which I worry about bringing up in a job interview. I'm currently looking for a job, but I am not sure if I will bring it up in future job interviews. My 8 year old son is going to be tested for learning disabilities/dyslexia in the coming months. I've had to reteach myself how we think about dyslexia and how I want to tell my son about this.
My personal attitude has never been "I can't do it" but rather " HOW do I do it?" A task may take me longer but I've never said "I can't". Also a good attitude goes a long way.
I also ask "How can WE do it?" I love being on a team. I think dyslexic people think of everyone involved (all assets and negating liabilities) and how to be helpful.
Don't ask me to do computer programming, get coffee or budget management. Ask me to motivate the team, talk to clients about how awesome we are, give presentations, and creatively problem solve the issues for a specific account.

You talk about changing the world, the world just punishes you if your old. They punished us for years, let us down, bullied us, blamed us for there failures ax teachers as they thought we was thick, but hey ho, we showed them that thinking differently does count.

I hope there is someone reading the comments and standing up for us older generation types as we're the one's who actually suffer.

I've no problem in paying £240.00 + an hour for help but I bet there are people's out there who struggle without the help they need to get into a work environment due to lake of qualifications.

I've worked with some fantastic academics only to see they can't do anything, employed a few that have nothing showed them the way and they're irreplaceable.

Life is a beautiful journey respect everyone.
