Thank you for pointing out the Stahlberg book. Looks like a wonderful Christmas gift. Would have missed it otherwise.

Ah, Be3. Those are always the type of moves that I miss. Nice that it didn't derail Stahlberg. Thanks for sharing.

GM King, yours is my absolute favorite chess teacher’s page. Here, as always, you annotate the selected game wonderfully. My only question here is that, while the Stahlberg book sounds like a superb chess history, I do think your subscribers would also appreciate your assessment of the annotations and analysis offered in the book. Thanks!

I think this might be the first Stahlberg win I've ever seen. He's one of those players who frequently appear in games collections on the losing end in classic games against the legends. Back in the old days one never knew much about these guys, but of course one can Google them now. This book is definitely going on my to-buy list.

You are a good man. Thanks for informing us about this book. And, more than that, your personal delight for it. Great idea, too, to talk about chess in this way. You are still getting better. Amazing to see. Thank you!

Love it when lesser known players get a moment in the spotlight and the book does look great!

Ståhlberg means steel mountain. That was a good win. Thanks Daniel.

My idea after 19... Kg8, when you asked your question about the next move at 10:15, was that if this were an ordinary chess puzzle, the correct answer would probably be 20.Bf6.
1. Stockfish then confirmed this (20... gxf6 21.exf6 Bxf2+ 22.Rxf2 Bxf3 23.Qxf3 Rc1+ 24.Rd1 Rxd1+ 25.Qxd1 Rd8 26.Qg4+ Kf8 27.Kf1, which is evaluated as +2.50 and better).
2. After 20.Qd2 in the game, Black could have defended himself better with 20... Rc7. The point is that now, after 21.Bf6 Be3 22.fxe3 and then Rxd7, 23.Qf2 does not work anymore because of 23... Be4 (or also 23... Rc8).
Not that this observation would prevent me from buying the book.

When you asked how to proceed with white I also analyzed only Bf6. Good news it was not my fault this time :) but i think you should point it out that it works (if you put it as a puzzle). Anyway, I really love your channel :)

Would Nd4 rather than Nd2 have been any good please? Cheers

It looks great and clearly an immense project. I have a video request. In the next one, can you please place said 2.1kg book on your creaking bookshelf?

Awesome looking book! No doubt also available from Chess and Bridge in Baker Street. That is where I got Verendel's first (I think) book, which is a biography of Akiba Rubinstein with games annotated by Yuri Razuvaev. Only time I came across Stahlberg is as as one of the players in the classic 1953 Zurich candidates tournament book by David Bronstein.

he was a bit of a whipping boy in zurich 1953

I have always understood that Stahlberg also represented Sweden in bridge and table tennis. Is this true? And if so, it must be some sort of record.

Yes, the paper and binding are excellent, but the book is not very stain resistant (I tested it). And when I set fire to it it got destroyed almost immediately.
