Check out the full breakdown on Nebula! There's a chart for the full song in the video if you want to play along.

I swear every time Paak and Mars drop a tune they're single-handedly quadrupling the total number of chords in that week's Top 40

These chords are refreshing and soulful. Music styles like this haven't been popular for decades. I'm glad they're making a comeback with original content. It's not just for those that grew up in the 60's and 70's who say how music was better back then.

It´s no coincidence the song is so harmonically interesting, it was co-written by Domi and JD Beck!!!

I know a little bit of music theory, but not nearly as much as Charles. This results in me not understanding most of it. Nevertheless, I get really happy watching him get excited over a particular chord progression.

it's so cool to see how passionate he gets talking about music.

It would be wicked to see a soul/funk revival. Hopefully it goes mainstream. Can’t wait for this album.

I like to call "sus chords" "tall chords" if they're not functioning with a suspended tone that resolves. I love those chords too.

damn that's crazy i didn't understand a single word of that.
edit: I don't come for the actual music theory (Though I think I've learnt something), I come for the goddamned personality of this man, cuz he seems so happy to be hearing this song, and I'm all for it.

An evening with Silk Sonic will be a 10/10. They are making history with this album and yes I liked Leave the door open a little more ❤

This’ll get buried, but while I do understand everything Charles is saying, I adore how excited he gets over the musicality. THAT’S what I love the most about this video and most of his videos. To see that sort of—I feel like “childish” is the wrong word, but forgive me for speaking too verbosely—childish enthusiasm makes me wish I wasn’t so burned out from music to play again. It’s wonderful seeing how enthralled he is and I hope that never changes for him.

I wish all those who get giddy over the complexity and story behind music a pleasant evening!

This Bruno guy is killing, always has been. Thank God i got to see him live here in Rio de Janeiro. I get so excited to listen to that kind of good stuff on the radio too!

I do love how he starts to “review” the song almost but then just goes into how much he loves one chord and then he just jams on it for a minute haha

Fun fact: Domi and JD Beck helped work on this song for all of you jazzers out there

Personally I wasn’t as big a fan of skate as I was of leave the door open but I can certainly appreciate it for what it is and can’t wait for the whole album.

i love how charles talks about the impact of different genres (such as mainstream pop and jazz/blues) and its impact on mainstream society, and how bruno and Anderson are 'opening the ears' of people. well said, honestlyy.
