LIDAR Unveils Lost Amazonian Cities

One of the great discoveries of the last few years has been the sprawling ancient lost cities stretched across the vast Ecuadorian Amazon. Using ground breaking LIDAR technology, archaeologists have found over 6,000 rectangular structures. This discovery reveals that a large, complex society that appears to have been even bigger than the well-known Mayan societies in Mexico and Central America was flourishing deep in the Amazon. This is a paradigm shift in our thinking about how extensively people occupied these areas.

This just helps validate the old Spanish accounts that there were vast cities in the Amazon rainforest.

I've been thinking this for years, that the Amazon rainforest has to be covering up ancient cities of vast proportions. We already knew of some structures peaking up out of the foliage. I heard a long time ago that the nature of the forest and soil as well as speed of growth suggests the rainforest may have been manmade to cover up the history of the area. Fascinating.

Too many times we hear of someone’s thoughts about “things”and they are dismissed out of hand since the “mainstream”thinks differently. It reminds me of a quote, “An honorable person expects to be believed and when they are not, they let time prove them true.” That describes Hancock perfectly.

As as someone who lived there and studied the Amazon, I was waiting this for decades. Thank you for sharing this.

On another LIDAR documentary I saw about 2 years ago, they found an important fact. It was thought that only nomadic people lived in what is now Amazon rain forest. They found evidence that big areas of the Amazon was cut down and used for large tracts of farmland!

In North America, there were huge mounds and dirt works. They were destroyed in the 1800s, and their contents were lost. Maybe now we can find out the truth.

They have discovered that most of the worlds population was in the Amazon. This discovery was made about 10 years ago. They didn't think it was possible to support huge cites. Now they know it was. They made cement, Terra Preta, and fishing weirs to survive.
