What Barbie Would Look Like In Real Life

How realistic is the body of a barbie doll? Not very. If you scale her up to the height of the average American woman, her waist is about half the size. Plus, her feet are so tiny that she’d likely lose her balance and be forced to walk on all fours. In 2016, Barbie’s maker Mattel released a handful of new sizes, including Curvy Barbie, which are more representative of real-life body diversity. But some experts say these dolls are still far from perfect.

i didn't really think of anything about their proportions when i was younger. i just liked dressing her up, styling her, and doing role plays with the doll lmao

And Bratz have huge heads, camel feet, and no noses. Cabbage patch kids have connected fingers. They're TOYS. Teach your kids not to look up to a damn toy instead of trying to change how dolls look. Hyper realistic dolls are really creepy.

To be honest
I didn't really care of Barbies body proportion
I was intrested in Barbies personality and achievement as a child

It's a doll. American girl dolls, monster high dolls, pollypocket dolls, etc, are not realistic. They're supposed to be toys.

There is a reason for those proportions. 1. Barbie's shape has a lot to do with the way she is meant to be play with. That is, her body is designed to be easily dressed and undressed by kids. Hence, the small feet and hands. 2. Barbie's clothes are made of real fabric, so the fibers used in said fabrics are not in proportion to her scale. That means every garment is WAY bulkier than it should. Which means her body is in fact smaller so that she looks more proportioned when dressed with the added bulk. Also, remember her clothes are attached with velcro or snaps which have to be a certain size so kids can easily dress and undress her adding extra bulk to her clothes.

She also had a job and lived in a decent house.
Can we talk about why this is also unrealistic.

As a kid I preferred the Barbie movies over Disney princesses as she saved the day in almost every movie, as opposed to being saved by a prince. Let's not forget that Barbie has had 100's of occupations that were supposedly meant for men. Yes she possesses a unique and unattainable look BUT, she has always shown girls that they can do anything.

I don't know but I grew up in the 90's so before bratz and all these other weird dolls of today. I owned hundreds of barbies and accessories. I never looked at my barbie's shape or size. I just enjoyed imaginative play...maybe I was a weird child. I mean I knew she was plastic she was never supposed to be real just fun. She was a TOY!

I always loved skinny dolls like Monster High, just because they looked like models, but I grew up to be very body positive, lmao.

I don't understand why people are still having this conversation. Barbie is a doll of course she isn't the same as a human. WTF has the world come to?

I honestly don't see the big deal with Barbie not being realistic to a typical human. Even with the new Barbie dolls with different shapes, sizes, skin tones, and hair types. It's a doll. At the end of the day it'll still be just a doll. It's not meant or expected for a toy designed for entertainment purposes to reflect real life humans.

Like I get that it can be considered harmful to young children that idolise Barbie. Even harmful to the children that don't typically see themselves in the media or within things they adore. However I think it just comes down to the individual, them being taught that Barbie isn't a real life standard, and that being different than what is considered "perfect" or "average" is totally okay.

Confused about how barbies make girls feel bad. I had Barbie. My sis had Barbie My niece's have barbies my mom had barbies and none of us wanted to even look like Barbie she is a doll for girls to play with. That's all. Im watching this vid with my mom and then saying Barbie makes girls feel bad my mom was shakeing her head saying no

Umm... dolls are not suppose to be accurate
Monster high, ever after high, American girl etc.
They’re just to play with

I will never understand why these type of problems kids and teens experience should be related to toys they grew up with and not their hoobies, parents, friends and other things...

i never even thought of comparing my body to hers as a kid because she’s just a doll, they’re supposed to be unrealistic. having dolls that look 100% human is creepy

THE REASON of such proportions is because of the clothing, the designers made her have that tall neck and figure for it to look somehow realistic/cartoonish when having several layers of tiny-thick clothing.
