GCSE Biology - Muscular System

The Muscular System
Muscles are the collective fibres that assist movement of the skeletal system. These are triggered by nerve impulses from the brain and occasionally the spinal cord. The human body has large and small muscles, some vitally important and some almost obsolete.

Two Types of Muscle
Involuntary muscles, such as those surrounding organs like the intestines and blood vessels, assist with vital bodily functions without the knowledge of their owner.
Voluntary muscles are attached to the skeleton and are totally under your control. For example, curling a bicep is a conscious decision made and uses a voluntary muscle.
