Real laser hologram

Here is a hologram I made about 30 years ago. Not the fake computer generated YouTube kind or the rainbow thing on your credit card. The real analog thing, made with a laser and holographic plate. I had not looked at it in probably as many years, as you actually need a fairly good laser source to see it. But today I found a real nice laser at my local surplus store (WeirdStuff, they sell on ebay too)! I had to have it. As soon as I came home I rigged up this hologram projection setup. Here it is in all it's analog beauty and full laser 3D!

Beautiful hologram Marc. A very nostalgic video for me, I used to work for a company that made mirror mounts, tables, beam splitters etc > 25 years ago here in the UK. I suspect your equipment is Newport as it differs cosmetically, they were a direct competitor to us. Originally we were Photon Control, later acquired by Melles Griot.

Great flashback for me. I made a hologram of a Humel figure on a 4x5 glass plate in 1990. Also of a coke can. You got a stress interference pattern if you viewed the coke can hologram with it still in place. They are lost someplace in the house.

I made a hologram with a helium-neon laser several decades ago. It was quite remarkable; almost spooky.

This really impressed me.
I've heard description of laser hologram from my father, but never saw one, live or recorded like this, let alone with technical description.

They used to be very common in the 1970s and now are impossible to find, everything called "hologram" these days is an imitation. They have disappeared even from good science museums like the San Francisco Exploratorium. Gone. I don't know why as a good laser hologram is much more impressive than the transmission or (especially) the rainbow one.

Nice table.  Can 3-D color hologram be done today ?  Did you have any problem insulating the table from people walking nearby or cars driving by ?  Still have a Laser Pointer with a red beam...  for my shirt pocket EDC.  Any pen that fits a Fisher Space Pen Refill.  The Pen is mightier than the sword !  Thank you for the video !  tjl
