did you not confuse primitive with scalar data type. Scalar data type means "basic building block (boolean, integer, float, char etc.)"
A primitive is typically used to represent a ‘value type’ (e.g. pass-by-value semantics) and this contrasts with ‘reference types’ (e.g. pass-by-reference semantics).
for example in javascript string is primitive but it is not basic at all it is composite data type made of char scalars and has an array data structure.
