The Staircase Ending Explained

After reconstructing the case of Michael Peterson, an American author who was condemned for the killing of his wife Kathleen, Sky's true crime miniseries The Staircase has come to a conclusion.
The series starred Colin Firth and Toni Collette as the tragic couple, and the eight episodes followed Peterson's murder conviction in 2003, which was overturned in 2011 after a blood spatter analyst for the prosecution was proven to have provided false evidence.

I'm not saying Michael Peterson is innocent but the US legal system is really badly stacked against anyone appealing wrongful convictions
