President Trump had tasked Musk with spearheading the Department of Government Efficiency, where the two made cuts to the federal workforce
Tesla dealerships and facilities had been targeted with anti-Musk graffiti, arson and other attacks
The US president made the remarks while he was seen at the White House with Elon Musk
The two engaged with a line of Tesla vehicles as they were parked outside the White House
Trump praised Mr Musk and Tesla for their contributions, with the Tesla CEO thanking the president for his support
“This man has devoted his energy and his life to doing this and I think he has been treated very unfairly by a very small group of people.
“You can’t be penalized for being a patriot and he’s a great patriot, and he’s also done an incredible job with Tesla.
“Because he’s able to find billions and billions and billions of fraud and waste and all of the things … our country’s going to be very strong, very soon.”
