Meanwhile the cloudkey gen2 that I buy solely to manage APs ships with a included 1tb hdd. Seems to me an odd choice not to have one or more hdd bays on such a flagship item.

Which makes no sense to me… if you have that much space within a dream wall, at least give us storage for a sata SSD laptop size hard drive… that would be better than a micro sd 🤦🏼‍♂️

Wow, they can't help themselves can they. They would have discussed this extensively at design stage and still decided to fu!k over the customer

With this type of form factor, any HDD would add additional heat into the entire enclosure. The SD card that got "eaten" may not be able to handle the continuous heat soak. Try getting a micro SD card from a brand like SanDisk that caters to in-car DVR recording. That is able to handle higher temps like on a sun soaked car windscreen, etc and would last longer.
