Probably the best video I have seen for this unit. I purchased the item a few years ago but never got around to setting it up. I have a number of tools from my father in law that desperately need sharpening. 😎👍

Most helpful. The instructional diagrams left me a little uncertain. Your video cleared that up nicely! Thank you.

Got one for £15 from Aldi mainly for kitchen knives and the odd drill bit. The instructions were next to useless so many thanks for an excellent demo!

Hi Great review very informative and thoroughly explained. I like how you showed the modification you did removing the bit of plastic. You did a fantastic job showing all the functions and how to use the sharpener 👍

Never head of this tool. I've only sharpened my chisels free hand/off hand.
This is a great introduction in to sharpening if you are a complete newcomer. Great informative video. Tony

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I read the instructions more than ten times, they aren't the best, certainly better than the "Chinglish" that normally accompany this sort of item, but it really had me struggling. Before anyone tells me how useless I am, I have written manuals/instructions and given demonstrations as to the use of all sorts of tools with great success. Your video and explanation have to be the best! As for the price/lasting of the item, well, if I can renovate and sharpen over a hundred or more old bits that I have acquired over the years then I consider that great value for money. as for the replacement grinding discs, I can't find them anywhere. If anyone can help with that it would be most appreciated! Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to post this video, I wish you and your loved ones all the best in life!

there always seems to be lots of people that waste their time and ours by leaving comments, reviews and bad advice based on pure ignorance, no skills, without a thought of logic, making it hard work for those seeking genuine information and reviews about potential items that could help save time, save money and make money etc,
So please use your time learning how to use things, not think you can when clearly you do not, people would not waste money marketing, producing and selling things that do not work,
The first rule with power tools is what the name says POWER do not force it, let the machine do its job POWER it all your doing is guiding, i am 55 with a lifetime in mechanical engineering and construction, a multi-skilled engineer along with multi high-end tradesman, plumbing, pipefitter, tiler and more, i am not a poser with name brand tools only if that is the best for my purpose, the Aldi Ferrex 20/40v range and ferrex tools i think are brilliant value for money with great spec and solid batteries that have 3-year guarantees, very little 2nd hand value so not stolen and replaced if they are stolen, damaged or lost, this can be done probably 7 or 8 times compared to DeWalt over-priced poser junk or snap-on who think their tools are that good they get their foolish customers to pay double for the very rare chance of any brand of tool that is designed with torq, stress and function being the purpose of use and construction, so the only reason a tool would brake is faulty materials or miss-use making them not fit for purpose and refundable so snap-on make you pay double for what? when the design of a tool is not to brake, so some are made small so it is impossible to, so posers get ripped off again,
this is a good sharpener for an afternoon when you have nothing to do, yes a grinding wheel is good but if they cannot use this simple machine they will struggle to get that special angel to get the cutting edge on a drill .
just one more thing when you put the drill in the setting bit, the groove part goes further upthe triangle because that bit is flat hollow, good video for those wanting to learn thanks

Thanks for an honest review, I am tempted as I have a lot of old chisels that need to be sharpened and, as you say, this tool would do well for the first re-grind.

I've got the PlasPlugs version of this machine had it for around 25 years it's always performed perfectly well, still the same intermittent use cycle though as per the Ferrex one, ie 1 minutes use 10 minutes to cool down, I just use it to sharpen items as needed it's not intended to 'do a batch', use it for it's intended purpose and it'll be fine

How they make these so cheap does a good job
Knives after sharpening 1 side a few stokes on other side to remove overhang Burr
Under a microscope you see the burr prevents a good Knive edge Use a stone and do 2strokes to remove the burr on oposite side .
this was a bargin near new at at 2ndhand store 1/2price glad i gragged it .
the motor inside is simular used in a pedestal fan motor

My local Lidl were doing these on clearance last week for £5 also small cordless screwdrivers also £5 and 6 piece file sets for £3 I bought 1 of each, The sharpener is basic with lots of play in the moving parts but it does work as described. For diy I would recommend especially if you can get on special deal.

I bought one today, unboxed it, struggled with the instructions, disliked it immediately and decided to return it as I find it pretty shoddy and of limited use for knives or anything in general.
Then I watched your post (thank you) and I thought, well, at least you can properly angle a chisel face, maybe I shouldn't be so quick to judge?
I just checked, the one I got is exactly the same as yours in most ways but it doesn't even have an angle 'scale' for the chisel, yes you can vary the angle of grind but it's a total guess?

Just yesterday I clamped my belt sander to a bench and sharpened several implements including an axe, a kukri and a lock-knife, started on grit 240 and worked through to 400, not bad results, keeping uniform along curved blades being the challenge?
For me, this is a pass.
Yes it's cheap but as a general rule of thumb, if you need equipment/tools then pay the money for a good one, you will only cry once, if you buy cheap 'shite' you will cry every time you need to use it!

Cheers matey.

On the bright side, your off-centre drill bit might now be made to match the off-centre Aldi drill press,

Just bought one today, Aldi is now selling them at £14.99, it is a bit loose on the plastic slides but for the price and the odd time I will use it, it should do fine. forgot to say they have removed the angle markings from the sticker, harder to find the same angle a second time without any markings lol
