Agreed, in my county the main heating is through wood furnaces and stuff? I dunno if that's less or more wasteful, but I really don't see the point of heating unnecessary rooms

With the central heating in England you can turn off or lower temperature of the radiators in the individual rooms so it's not a waste.

There should be an option to control the temperature of a central heating system. It's not good to experience rapid changes in temperature, it's one of the main reasons why people get sick.

For me (not Japanese, I’m European) I buy tower heaters. Sometimes it’s minus degrees but I put my portable heating wherever I am, since you can move it around I can put it in the bathroom 15-30 minutes before I take a shower and then I move it to my room. The heating isn’t fast enough but good when are heating a room by itself.
I would love an idea to heat a room mildly when it’s not needed ad strong extremely hot heat when needed.

My house doesn't have heat. I have a mini heater I keep in my room and one in the bathroom. Kitchen is fine with an oven

My family in Australia uses plug in portable gas heaters in our rooms.
in main living areas like the kitchen or living room we use the air com in the heater setting

Our home doesn't have central heating, and no heater but it doesn't stoop lower than 6° C so we tend to rely on cloths and heavy blankets

It's definitely less wasteful
But! The central heating in my house is very weird and some rooms jims don't have a heat vent so it's a little shocking to walk from a fully heated room to a room with no heat vent into another room with full heating

Also! Is there any families that just turn a room heater on in each room? Then you're being wasteful anyway but idk if anyone does that
