Porsche's modern classic RS Spyder LMP2 chassis dominated the American Le Mans Series, won the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans on its debut in 2008, and made legions of sports car fans fall in love with the V8-powered prototype.

Unfortunately, the RS Spyder was retired before HD camera technology became readily available, which makes RACER's latest Visor Cam with Holland's Jeroen Bleekemolen a genuine treat.
The Dutchman was a star among the three-driver rotation that earned the RS Spyder’s class victory at Le Mans, and he leapt at a chance to drive one of the former Team Penske Porsches during the Rennsport V celebration on 9.26.15 at Laguna Seca.

Starting from pole, Bleekemolen displayed his mastery of the yellow No. 5, built an impressive lead during the opening two laps, and then began to weave his way through the field as he lapped iconic Porsche 956s, 962s, other RS Spyders, and a variety of Porsche GT cars.

Take a HD ride with the Dutch ace and enjoy the aggressive tones from Porsche’s 3.4-liter engine during an unforgettable afternoon in Monterey.

Just awesome. I full-screened it, cranked the volume, and sit with my face 10" off the screen for 14 minutes....

Funny to see he overtook his " own" 24H of Le Mans winning van Merkensteijn RS Spyder at the end of the video.

Looked like they had him short shifting to keep the RPMs low to preserve the engine (you can see a line on the tac to almost indicate the shift point). I'm sure Jeroen didn't want to bring a torn up race car to Mr. WeatherTech!
Jeroen was running 1:22s with no traffic. If you see the onboard from Timo Bernhard from 2007, he was running 1:13s with no short shifting.

@Oscar possibly still geared for more wide-open tracks like Le Mans?

Sound like they have the shift points way early and 6th gear is tall as hell too.

Anybody know why Porche stopped supporting the Spyder?

4:58 Brumos had the ugliest Porche ever? Grand Am a clear low point in prototype design history...
