Aw man I could not get spotifyd to actually launch properly and had been breaking my head over it for a good 30min. I stripped my config down to the bare minimum as you basically have and suddenly it works. I don't know why it didn't before but I'm not gonna question it too hard, Thanks for the video!

So I've got it seemingly all working, but when I run spt, I can only move between Library, Playlists and the Welcome! window - I am NOT able to move up to the search field. Not sure why, it plays songs from the Library section and my playlists and such, but the Search box is apparently just there for decoration.

edit: Slept on it, gave the help page another read and finally spotted that in order to use the Search box - which looks exactly like the other boxes in every way - you have to press the forward slash key. This might also be mentioned in the video but I missed it. I've seen many approaches to UI design, and "actively hostile to user intuition" is certainly an interesting one.

It said on the Spotifyd documentation that it will not work without Spotify Premium. Can this work for me that don't have a spotify premium subscription? Is there any way to bypass this?
