Rich Rebuilds, Louis Rossmann, and many others have been saying this for a while. People need to be aware of where many industries are headed. John Deere, Tesla, Right to repair is important

“Own your car outright.” This is one of the main reasons I love your channel.
I’d rather own a sh!tbox than owe anything on a nicer newer car.

I can’t believe this is something we even have to talk about it’s ridiculous, yet so is the state of the current auto industry and these big companies.

This is why cars made from 1996-2010 are the best, modern enough to have things like OBDII, airbags, and fuel injection but not new enough to where manufacturers started integrating everything with the infotainment system and adding complex systems to meet emissions targets

What I took away from this is that we shouldn't sacrifice our freedoms for safety

This is becoming a big problem with farmers and new tractors, especially on the software end.

I love how Rich Rebuilds is fighting for this right for Teslas

It's kind of unbelievable that we have to talk about this and actually take it seriously. We start to live in a world where people get funny looks who fix their own stuff, doesn't matter if it is a car, phone or whatever...

Nice "ominous" blue car you got there in the background tho ;)

several years ago, my ram's transmission started to slip, a local mechanic shop told me I needed a new transmission and drive shaft.
At the time I never worked on cars, but all I did was learn how to change the trans filter and fluids. Sure enough, the truck ran like new

Apple is one of the biggest companies that try to make it hard for the consumers to fix their own devices and they are fighting the right to repair check Louis Rossmann

You're absolutely correct. What scares me now is how utilitarian cars have become and how connected they are to the internet. It's almost like you never really own the car. You never own the software in the car and it seems that with that they could control your automobile.
You nailed it on the head but I'm not sure if this is George Orwell or more Ayn Rand.
Look what they're doing with multimedia, it's the same principle. With streaming services you have access but you never really own anything either. I believe we are entering an era where we're going to pay for everything and own absolutely nothing

Casey... I stumbled on you channel not too long ago. YOU made me jump into a stupid dream that i always had. I bought myself a 1982 Alpine White Porsche 944 a month ago. Its my only car and i drive it everyday. I LOVE THE FEELING IT GET ME EVERYDAY!!!! I myself am from 1982 and have been in love with the 944 forever. Thanks man, for making me do it :) Much love from Denmark.

If they keep trying to pull the “it’s our technology you can’t work on it” then they’ll have to say goodbye to my business and a lot of other peoples business. Why buy a new car?

Nothing shaped my views more than having something I loved to work on and ride. Be halted by a bunch of people who were no better than idiots. Who didn't have any clue how to respect the machines, but instead blamed the machines for their own failings. That happened in 1986 in the USA. Nobody came and took away my bikes, but they did ban manufactures from making any more. Or advancing the vehicles which was where I wanted to go. The bikes were known as 3 Wheeler's or in Honda's case All Terrain Cycles. I was once talking with a friend, I had mentioned I used to ride 3 Wheeler's. First thing out of his mouth, "Those were dangerous". We were in the middle of a machine shop(please enjoy the irony), I replied, "So is every tool in this place, if you don't know how to use it".

Dang I like you Casey. A modern philosopher for our times. You are inspired and beautiful.
You are communicating to the world how wonderful this country is and can remain, through the love of mechanical adventure.
I raise a glass to you sir.

I daily drive a 65' T code Mustang.

No power steering, I >just< installed power disc brakes (safety issue), no a/c and only had 2 point lap belts in front when I got it.

Paid peanuts for that thing...can fix EVERYTHING with basic hand tools, and runs like a top with minimal maintenance.

It's a total rat mobile, and STILL gets more looks and likes that most other cars on the road...and every time I get in, it's the most fun I can have in a car while clothed.

As much as I love the tech and performance behind the likes of Tesla, I wouldn't trade my little pony for one even if you paid me.

Next up...67 Lincoln Continental.

My neighbor is a doctor from India. He is amazed I work on my vehicles, I’ve built my deck in the backyard and that I remodeled my bathroom. I end up showing and teaching him a lot of things. Yesterday he stated “it is amazing how you guys here in America know how to do everything, we don’t do stuff like this back home.” It is cool to know that American ingenuity is still a thing.

Yes, 100% agree on leasing. It's not common in my home country of NZ where driving grey imports is pretty normal, but when I lived in London all my colleagues leased cars.

'It only costs me 250 pounds a month to lease this near-new car! Why would you drive something so old?'
Yeah but my 2001 BMW 330CI I bought there cost me 1850 pounds. In 8 months, Your car payments could buy my car outright. (And then I sold it 1.5 years later for 1600, so owning it barely cost me anything in depreciation)
