Grilled Whole Beef Tenderloin Recipe

WHAT MALCOM USED IN THIS RECIPE:

The first thing you'll need to do is trim the beef tenderloin -- unless you buy your beef tenderloin already trimmed from your butcher.

Next you will marinade your beef tenderloin, for my recipe I a bottle of Moore's Original Hickory Marinade to soak the tenderloin for about 2 hours in the refrigerator. You can find Moore's at your local grocery store on the sauce isle or you can make your own with:

- 1 cup Worcestershire
- 1/2 cup Soy Sauce

After your marinade your beef tenderloin, it's time to season it. I used Butcher BBQ's Steak and Brisket seasoning.

Let the tenderloin sit out at room temperature after seasoning just long enough to fire up the grill. For the cooking process you'll need a 2 zone fire. I set up my Weber kettle with a chimney of hot coals on one side and a drip pan on the other. As soon as the grill is hot, it's time to cook.

Place the tenderloin over the hot coals and set a timer for 2 minutes. Turn the loin and repeat every two minutes until its' seared on 4 sides. (Total of 8 min.)

Move the tenderloin to the cool zone. At this point check the internal temperature to see where it is. It was sitting right at 100 degrees, so it needs 10-15 more minutes before it's done. You want to place the lid on the grill to control the heat and set a timer for 10 minutes.

Beef Tenderloin is best served medium rare - 130 degrees. It should have a warm red center and firm feel on the outside. You can cook it longer but it takes away the beef flavor.

Once your beef tenderloin is cooked, let the tenderloin rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing.

Now all that's left to do is enjoy!

Thanks for making this video, Malcom! I followed your recipe exactly, even down to the Weber kettle grill and my tenderloin came out perfect! Buying the whole tenderloin at Sam's and trimming it myself saved a BUNCH of money! My daughter and her husband even asked if I could come over and grill one for a dinner party they're having for some business friends.

This looks great! I love the hot/cool cooking method you've shown on the Weber kettle. Also, is Moore's sauce any kin to Dale's? The bottle and color of the sauce are the same . Just curious.
Thanks from Florida!

Sanjiv More - Freezing meat is fine. The key is to thaw it properly - don't ever speed thaw meat, just let it thaw in a fridge or cold water.

Good job, Malcom! Yours is the best video I've watched so far on cooking a beef tenderloin. Trying your technique today for Mother's Day.

Plus you have the extras if you buy a whole loin!

Another awesome video! Thanks for all the tips as I am going to have to try this one. I did have one question, do you ever purchase and freeze meet for cooking later or always purchase fresh? The reason I ask is that I have a smaller family and there are times where cooking or smoking a large size portion is not always possible. Any feedback would be appreciated. Happy Holidays.

Looks phenomenal Malcom.  Thanks for walking through the trim process too.  Very informative.  If you hadn't had them before, check out either the Santa Maria or Black Ops rubs from Oakridge.  Both are excellent on beef.

I'll pay the extra for the already trimmed one. Stitches are way more expensive than what I would save buying the untrimmed one. ;)

Cooking my first tenderloin next week on a Weber. Do you recommend this option or fully indirect until I get to the correct temp? Thanks for all the videos!
