I use a CTek charger on my Ultima Nigel. My wiring is a little different though. I have a cable from the battery that runs to the front of the car. It has a waterproof connector on it. It is hidden just inside the radiator opening. I can then plug in the charger without opening the front clip. I know from experience that the car needs charging if not run for 3 weeks and it is permanently connected over winter. Paul

Great choice of charger Nigel. I fitted the same kit to mine but with a 3D printed bracket for the comfort panel in the wheel well area.. I can thoroughly recommend the CS One, well worth the extra pennies. Haven’t used it in anger with the RS yet but my XJ was giving regular battery errors, I was on the verge of ordering a new, rather pricey AGM unit. Tried this charger, it spent 8 hours reconditioning the battery and it’s been absolutely faultless now for several months. This one cycle paid for itself.

As a little side note for those who aren’t too fussed about the comfort indicator panel, you can just clip the charger on and away it goes, you don’t even need to worry about polarity, it takes care of that itself !! Well done CTek.

CTEK is great stuff. I use it in my C63 and the battery has never let me down

Great setup Nigel. I love CTEKs new charger, and that carry case 😊
My RS has a LiteBlox lithium battery, a tad costly, but it saves circa 12kgs weight and is all controlable from my mobile, including total battery cut off and theft system. On trickle charge.
I am so looking forward to episode 66 🏎

Followed the whole build and absolutely enjoyed every episode, thank you👏 One question though, I saw you hook up the positive lead to the battery positive terminal, but didn’t see where you would hook up the negative lead. Does it go to the battery negative terminal, or to a ground on the frame? Again, thank you for the great content.

I also use tire ovalization prevention cushions for longer storage over the winter time. (Kuberth)

Im also using a ctek for my motorcycle, works perfectly, when i come back after winterbreak the battery is charged und the Engine spins over.
Sadly it doesnt always start because its an old Africa Twin 750 with carburators who want to be cleaned first

Ctek looks good and I'd probably go for that if I was buying now but I bought an Optimate4 way back in my motorcycling days to keep my bikes batteries conditioned and although its around 18 years old now its still working perfectly so I'll not be replacing it until it dies. On my GTM I have a permanently live cig lighter socket so I've rigged the optimate outlet to have a cig lighter plug so it can connect to the battery via that and no need to open any clamshells.

On a different note, the Optimate has a battery recovery mode for sulphated batteries and I've used it to bring back completely dead batteries that wouldn't even accept charge from conventional chargers - one of the ones I recovered is still working fine several years later so it does work! Does the Ctek have that feature?

You would think CTEK would make a round fitment comfort indicator too for ease of installation, just a holesaw or step drill much easier...just saying

The Ultima has almost zero electronics and no alarm, I'm pretty sure I would keep its charge for 6 month.
