Strength Reduction Factor

This video shows the strength reduction factor. Strength reduction factor is the factor for different structural members, and used to reduce the actual strength of member while design, because in this way we achieve the factor of safety in design. There are different strength reduction factors for different members. Some of these are,

Design Structural Members SRF
Tension members 0.90
Compression members 0.75/0.60
Shear members 0.75
Torsional members 0.75

So actually its more of an Strength Effectiveness Factor? As with an SRF of 0, 75 the assumed strength is not reduced by 0, 75 the actual strength, but simply multiplied.

e.g. with 30 MPa and a SRF of 0, 75:
Not 30 - 0, 75 . 30 = 7, 5 MPa
But 30 . 0.9 = 22.5 MPa
