How prosperous your nation is, how many powerful warriors it boasts, and how heroic and strong its king is. These are the criteria that factor into the system known as the Ranking of Kings.
The main character, Bojji, was born the first prince of the kingdom ruled by King Bossu, who is ranked number seven.

But Bojji was born unable to hear and is so powerless that he can’t even swing a sword. In consequence, his own retainers and the public, look down upon him as completely unfit to be king.

It is then that Bojji finds his first friend, Kage, and Bojji’s life takes a dramatic turn…

Don't be fooled by the cute artstyle, this story is more complex as you watch each episode and can get pretty dark at times. Honestly, this is such an underrated anime with really good animation at times, surprisingly.

I just finished ep 22. I have to say, this series is actually a fresh take on the current storytelling techniques you find in mainstream anime.

It’s a complex web of characters so deep and varied that you really come to understand each character in this over the top world the story is set in.

Ranking of Kings is an absolute gem that makes you fall in love with the protagonist right from the jump. Don’t sleep on this one people, it’s a masterclass in character development.

I cried for Bojji at first because of the identity of his character being so sweet, yet on the fray ...and then I cried more because of his belief in himself, and others who saw his tenacity even through his disability...This anime serves as a remainder to those of us on the fray that we can still aspire, and maybe inspire, its not all for nothing maybe...

The art style and color is giving me 80s anime vibes for me personally that this looks like something my mom and I would totally watch together (she introduced me into anime when I was 12 by watching Candy Candy, Heidi, and Sandy Bell. Those were her childhood favorites btw). We tend to watch coming-of-age animes together ☺️
