Video scripts with sources are available for free on my Patreon.

There are asterisks through out the video and here is where the comments for the asterisks are. The comments go in chronological order with the video.

*This isn’t a crest of a jewelry guild (I couldn’t find one), it is a crest of leather workers.

* There were many more cities involved with the HL. then shown here.

* Not a 100% accurate representation of 1350 EU.

It's crazy how complicated and intricate economics could be even in the middle ages! Kind of reminds me of how the Knights Templar acted as a sort of international banking system during the crusades, these things that feel relatively modern have some deep roots. Very nice video!

At 1:53 "Ahh ja pierdole", which is Polish for "I'm currently busy."

Btw Hamburg, Bremen and Lübek are to this day officially called "Hansestadt" which means city of the Hansa.

As someone from Bergen I can say that the Hanseatic League have been a major influence on our city´s history, culture and identity. Besides that I got star strucked when I saw Bergen on the map, you made my day!

To me, one of the most interesting facts is that the League defeated King Waldemar IV of Denmark in a war and imposed heavy terms upon him

mercantilism ruined the hanseatic league. Note: that's why the Duch created the VOC because they weren't allowed to trade normally anymore.

Slight correction: You said the Hansa was an "early Schengen area". But the Schengen area only refers to the area of the EU without border controls, not the area without tarriffs. The area without tarriffs is the Internal Market. Romania and Norway for example are part of the Internal Market but not part of the Schengen area.

I had to slow down the video to catch the Polish response to the "Guten Tag!" at 1:53. Hilarious :)
BTW Krakow was also technically a member of the Hanseatic League. Come to think about it history of Krakow would be an excellent subject for your video, wouldn't it?

I visited a guild hall in Riga last week ... built in 1880's but with late medieval references to all the different cities and trades (professions ). Wonderful.

City of Turku in Finland is a Hansa City, I wish it was still the capital of Finland.

"The Patrician" series of games were a fantastic series, set in the Hanseatic League. Well worth checking out. :)

As a Latvian i feel that from all of the foreign powers which had controlled my country over these 500 years, Germans had the best impact on our culture. Even tho i support paganic traditions and i'm very disappointed what happened with our now extinct brothers - Old Prussians.
But anyway i give a cookie for the content creator which i discovered by an accident just by watching Mr. Beat. Good job!
And if there is a possibility for a video suggeston for the future, i'd really like to see something about Reichskommissariat Ostland, Terra Mariana or United Baltic Duchy.
Thank you!

Good video! Im from the unnamed north-northeasterneasternmost city marked by a star. Curiously, I think all Hanseatic trade cities had in their marketplaces a pillar, upon which a statue of Roland was standing. This symbolized protection of trade from arbitrary taxation by local rulers.

To know: Belgian trade unions work with a membership classification based on the old classification of gilds. A union membership is twofold. On the one hand it is geographically determined, on the other hand it is based on the profession ie the old gilds. Geographical authorities deal with a matter different from that than the professional authorities knowing hereby that professional authorities mostly deal with money. So many years later thus.
