Former USC 35 pilot here. This took me back. Best jet I ever flew!

The STEER LOCK switch in the pedestal is actually to keep the steering ON without having to hold anything. To disconnect, just use one of the Master Disconnect switches on the yoke (depress momentarily) and the steering should disengage.

By the way, on a Lear 35, it's also a bad practice to leave both inverters OFF during a start. You should turn ON at least 1 inverter because the OIL Pressure indication will not come alive until you have AC power (seen in this video). Furthermore, I recommend turning one of the batteries OFF before you turn ON the first gen, because if you don't, you might blow a current limiter if the batteries were low. You then wait until your current is below 100 amps before you switch that battery back on and then keep waiting until it comes back down again below 100 amps or so before you start the opposite engine.

Always nice to see a Learjet 35 video though, they are tough jets !

The inverter is supposed to be turned on PRIOR to engine start, because without it you'll have no indication of oil pressure, as seen in this video.

To start a TFE 731-2 engine such as found on the 35 series lear's for maint purposes only. Even if A/C is chocked Check hyd pressure, if low put main batts on hyd pump on let it cycle 'till the hyd press is in the green on the gauge, hyd pump off. Make sure park brake is set, push on top of rudder pedals & pull park brake lever out.
Beacon on (far R/H side F/O). Inverters on or at least one on. Check thrust levers in idle cut off. Check clear on right (if starting right which is normally the first one to start). Select start gen switch to start (Down) observe N2 (Turbine Speed, top gauge) when 10% reached select thrust lever to idle position, monitor oil press (Inv must be on for this) & note peak EGT 860c is high enough, good engines start cooler. Once engine stabilizes check starter engage light off, switch to generator, once below 175Amps the 2nd engine can be started if needed.
I luv the Lear, after flying Airbuses & ow retired am lucky I can drive a LR36 again, LG:-)

So you get in and the very first switch you flip starts spooling up the engine? No Battery, Beacon, fuel pumps???

And didn´t switch on the Inverter so he didn´t see the Oil press during start up. Also the Emergency Valve is still open when the Engine is at Idle. Didn´t went very well :)
