Blessed are the subscribers for they shall inherit the earth. After my apartment tour video I had a subscriber say that they'd like to see what walking around the surrounding neighborhood looked like. I am more than happy to oblige. I have another video to record tomorrow which will be more documentary style but in the meantime it's cool to have these more supplementary gonzo style amateur just for fun stuff. I am super lucky to have ended up living where I do and to be able to share it, even more so. This is not a formal video with wild editing. It's meant to relax and just hang out. I hope you enjoy the chill vibes that the downtown area of Kyoto provides.

I used to run the river as well. I would run up the west bank and cross the stones at the Y in the river. Head east to Philosopher’s Path. Walk from the Temple of the Silver Pavilion to Nanzen-ji. My favorite part of Kyoto.

Great video Dave! I simply cannot get enough of all things Japan. Ever since my first visit as an elementary school kid with my parents, which included a very memorable few days in Kyoto, to a spurt of almost yearly visits with my wife and kids since 2015. Keep the great content coming. Especially enjoyed your video on preserving the machiya in Kyoto. I’d be interested in hearing your insights about how Kyoto is grappling with the downturn in tourism, and also what else the city has to offer besides the beautiful architecture and charm of the old Kyoto (Gion, etc). Loved this video! Was lucky enough to study in Kyoto for half a year just before the pandemic so seeing these sights brings back great memories. Where you ended your walk is actually one of my favorite spots to hang with friends at Kamogawa! After a couple of months I noticed it started to become normal to bike through the city and see shrines left and right in every street, plus the amazing architecture, definitely miss it a lot now! Thanks for the great videos and would love to see more of this.

This was a really wonderful walking tour of a truly beautiful city. This is the kind of content that I really enjoy learning about machiya and history and places to chill out at by the river.
