2020 Kawasaki Z900 Review

The 2020 z900 was a blast for sure! I was lucky enough to be riding this Kawasaki for about three days, and it's so much fun to be able to test new vehicles! It really puts all your other experiences into perspective!

The first of hopefully many more "professional" reviews. I am looking to improve this kind of video so let me know what you might have missed in such a "review" and I'll try to implement that in the next one!

The Z900 is actually just as quick low down compared to the MT09. One of the American mags tested them back to back on acceleration and roll-on's in all the gears. They were neck and neck till the Kawasaki got to higher revs where it's extra power pulled away from the Yam. I think it's because the Z900 is so smooth and refined it doesn't feel initially as quick where as the MT09 has a more abrubt throttle and more vibey and aggressive engine. The Kawasaki does have a better balanced and handling chassis though. For the money it's great value. Cheers.

I think it’s cheaper than all its competition and more powerful ( at least on paper ).. To me it looks better than MT09 and D890..,

Thank you. Just found this review. I have a CBB650R, that I really like for its stability and fun at higher revs. I've test ridden a MT 09 and loved the engine but not much else. I'd really like a totally smooth 4 cylinder bike with more mid-range power. This seems ideal to me. The looks of it I can live with - just. Excellent review.

Way better than the MT09, this is a proper bike for adults and hooligans alike

I appreciate the small detail you mentioned of wearing a backpack and possibly the rear cowl getting in the way. On my zx6r I wear an ogio dakar backpack and use a nelson commuter bag tied to the rear seat. With the forward lean of the zx6r I do not have any clearance issues. But since the z900 is much more upright there may be clearance issues.

Enjoyable review, cool machine. YouTuber Schaaf raves about the Z900’s confidence-inspiring manners every time he rides one.

Yep. MT-09 vs. Z900. The big Z blows the Yamaha away in stability/confidence, and smoothness of engine.
As far as torque is concerned, it's hard to beat a sport twin-cylinder in the 800-900cc range. Yet, the Z900 makes about 8-10 ft-lb more than the MT-09 in the midrange.

Great review and outstanding video! Subscribed. I own a Kawi Z400 and it is total fun on a twisty road! I used to own a 2011 Triumph Speed Triple and for brute power and acceleration, it was in a much higher class but can't touch the little Z400's "fun factor" on a tight, curvy twisty road. However, it's not a good bike for longer rides, and because of that I'm considering a Z900. Can one do an all day ride (8-9 hours), on the Z900 and remain in comfort?

In the meantime, I'm still riding my 150 cc Yamaha FZ V2. How I envy. It would be a perfect match for me

I had an MT09 and it was fun and dangerous. Handling was iffy and brakes weren't much better. Have a '22 Z900 and anyone that says it doesn't pull down low is smokin' somethin. You can go into a turn at 15mph in 4th gear and motor on thru like it was nothing. Like a turbine engine. Can't say enough good about this bike, except 2 up it blows.Long live Z900's!

Great review. Thought I was a fan of the MT-09 but I am hearing so many great things about this bike, I will definitely check it out. I am now riding a 2009 Harley Street Glide and really like it. But, at 71, my days on a 750 lb. bike are numbered. This could be a great option. Just wish that Kawi offered the performane option in the US. So far, they don't. Of course, I can cobble those options together. But it's a nice package.

It's 18, 600$ (USD) in my country for a brand new 2020 Z900.
But a used 2nd hand with 6, 500 KM 2019 Z900 is 13, 000$
I'm contemplating buying one this week, and I'm kind of torn. Go for the one that's like 5.6k cheaper (2019) but used, with 6k mileage or a brand new for much more but comes guilt free afterwards, like you're not worried about anything since it's brand new and it's 2020 not 2019.
Thoughts?

Great review! Seems like the mt09sp has just a little more character with the low end torque and it is more playful/hooligan. Z900 seems to be more calm and relaxed compared to the mt09sp.

You recomend this for a rider 5.5 to 5.6 ft?
